“The Liberal Democratic Party of Japan is currently embroiled in a significant scandal involving political fundraising parties.

It has been alleged that five factions, including the party’s largest, the Abe faction, failed to declare a portion of their party ticket sales in their political funds balance reports.

This undisclosed revenue is suspected to have been funneled back to the politicians as secret funds.

In the Abe faction alone, it is alleged that over 100 million yen was funneled back in the past five years.

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor’s Special Investigation Department is advancing voluntary questioning of those involved.

Hiroshi Matsumoto, who serves as Chief Cabinet Secretary, is also reported to have received over 10 million yen in secret funds.

In response to this unfolding situation, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has called an emergency meeting with LDP executives and demanded a temporary suspension of such parties.

However, this has only exacerbated the public’s distrust, posing a potentially fatal blow to the already waning support for the Kishida cabinet.

Party income is a major source of funding for these factions, and suspending it inevitably impacts the faction-affiliated members.

Depending on the outcome of this secret funds issue, it could lead to a paralysis in governance functions, further intensifying the challenges faced by the Kishida administration.”
